The high drama at the Nedumbassery Airport in Kochi does not seem to end any time soon as social activist Trupti Desai, who had vowed to offer prayers at the Sabarimala temple, has been stranded for more than eight hours inside the premises.

She, along with six other young woman associates, was blocked from leaving for the hill shrine this morning.

Political parties have begun sparring over her planned visit. While the state government has been reported to accredit Desai's determination to visit the shrine as a ploy by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said the protest was planted by the Congress party.

Taking to Twitter, BJP national information technology chief Amit Malviya said, "Activist' Trupti Desai had unsuccessfully contested the Pune Municipal Corporation election, in Feb 2012, from ward 38 (Balajinagar) on a Congress ticket. It is insidious how the Communists and Congress are shredding every tradition of the Hindu society, one step at a time."
